About the venue
Established in the 1860s the current maara kai at Parihaka Pa has been growing for about 25 years. The garden uses permaculture and organic methods to grow a wide variety of vegetables, fruit trees, nuts, herbs while restoring native habitat. Beyond abundance, this maara kai nourishes three marae, residents and wider whānau, while hosting reo Māori sessions, school visits, cultural events and a Kai Oranga gardening course — a living papakainga rooted in collective resilience, wellbeing and peaceful resistance to colonisation
